Environ Stays Ahead in Vitamin A Expertise and Compliance
4th Sep 2025
At Environ, our passion for skin health and our commitment to delivering high-performance skincare solutions have always placed us at the forefront of skincare innovation, particularly in vitamin A, our cornerstone ingredient. In response to the latest European Union (EU) regulations (*Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/996 amending Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009) on retinol and its equivalents in cosmetics, Environ has proactively reformulated selected products, without compromising on the results that our Skincare Professionals and customers know, love, and trust.
How do the new EU Regulations affect Environ products?
The European Union (EU) has established regulations for the use of certain forms of vitamin A such as Retinol, Retinyl Acetate, and Retinyl Palmitate in cosmetic products. These regulations, outlined in Commission Regulation (EU) 2024/996, set maximum concentration limits based on the type of cosmetic product. Body lotions are limited to 0.05% Retinol Equivalents (RE), while other leave-on and rinse-off products (including face and hand creams) are limited to 0.3% RE.
Environ has reformulated a select few products using Retinyl Propionate to ensure compliance with the regulation, while maintaining the efficacy and integrity of our formulations. Retinyl Propionate is not a new ingredient in Environ formulations. It offers favourable stability, efficacy, and tolerability, which is why it’s been used in our advanced skincare for years.
The following Environ products have been reformulated with Retinyl Propionate:
Skin EssentiA® Range | Youth EssentiA® Range |
Skin EssentiA® AVST 4 | Youth EssentiA® Serum 4 |
Skin EssentiA® AVST 5 | Youth EssentiA® Serum 4 Plus |
Youth EssentiA® Defence Crème Plus |
Clinical studies indicate that Retinyl Propionate is well tolerated and may result in fewer transient retinoid responses compared to other esters. This makes it an ideal choice for high-step formulations in sensitive or reactive skin types. The updates ensure that our products remain compliant with global regulations and quality standards while maintaining the same effective dose of vitamin A, measured in International Units (IUs). This is where Environ’s long-standing expertise in vitamin A ingredient science meets in-depth understanding of skin.
Do the new formulas still contain the same strength of vitamin A?
Yes. The reformulated products retain their original IU strength of vitamin A. This ensures that biological activity and skin benefits are aligned with Environ’s progressive Vitamin STEP-UP SYSTEM™. The appearance, texture, and sensory experience of the reformulated products remain beautifully consistent with what our customers and professionals already trust, ensuring a seamless transition and continued confidence in your skincare routine.
Innovation Without Compromise
As a brand founded on science and innovation, Environ strives to remain ahead of the curve, proactively adapting to global regulations while staying true to our commitment of safe and effective skincare. We will always drive our mission of helping you achieve beautiful skin for a lifetime.
